The Edmonton Oilers have extended the contract of a defenseman. Atro Leppänen has signed a new working paper up to and including the 2026/27 season.
The Canadian franchise announced this on Monday. Leppänen’s original contract was therefore extended by one year.
The 27-year-old Finn has been playing in Edmonton since April 2025, but he is still waiting for his first appearance in the NHL. At least in the AHL, Leppänen impressed for the Bakersfield Condors this season, with the defender scoring 20 points (3 goals, 17 assists) in 28 games.
Before joining the Oilers, Leppänen only gained experience in his native Finland. The man from Mänttä was most recently active for Vaasan Sport, where he set a new record for points by a defender with 63 points in 60 games.
