Albert Verlinde does not stand out as an interpreter in RTL Tonight, everyone now agrees on that. However, his contract will continue for a while, so the question is: what now? “Back to RTL Boulevard!”
At the end of his TV career, Albert Verlinde (64) took the wrong turn. He exchanged the controversial Today Inside for the safe, bloodless RTL Tonight, where no one chafes and everything stays neatly within the lines. Albert does not come to life there, because his strength lies in sharpness, conflict and outspoken opinions.
Criticism of Albert
The tea party that Albert is currently in is of course not a worthy final phase of his career, according to Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden. “There are people who think that he is trying too hard there at the desk, that he wants to show too much: look, I will take over this show to make it a success.”
Private journalist Jan Uriot responds mildly to this in the podcast Strictly Private: “I like that, because I was also taught that you should not sit at a desk like a victim and wait to be asked something, but that you should also participate in the conversation. That is what Albert does very well.”
‘Back to BLVD’
What should Albert do now? Jordi: “Do you know what he should do in my opinion? He doesn’t have to do anything, right, but: shouldn’t he just be put back at the desk of RTL Boulevard?”
Jan: “No, you shouldn’t do any of that. You shouldn’t go back.”
Jordi: “What do you mean?”
Jan: “No, look ahead and not back.”
Spicy
However, Jordi thinks that both Albert and RTL Boulevard would benefit from his comeback. “Then the program becomes a bit more spicy. I think it has all become a bit more well-behaved, RTL Boulevard.”
Jordi himself is now part of Shownieuws. “I also do my best to say something nice every now and then.”
And Albert can do that best at Boulevard, he thinks. “Maybe that is something for him and otherwise he will go back to VI.”
