1. FC Nürnberg has strengthened itself once again on the home straight of the transfer window and signed Styopa Mkrtchyan from Croatian first division club NK Osijek. The club does not provide any information about the length of the contract. The 22-year-old central defender closes the gap that arose after the departure of several defenders.
Sports director Joti Chatzialexiou said: “Our scouting department dealt intensively with Styopa and recommended him with full conviction, as he meets our requirements profile as a left-footer and, at 1.92 meters tall, also has a decent physique. With this transfer we are reacting to the departures of Ondrej Karafiat, Tim Drexler and Robin Knoche. With Styopa we see ourselves very well positioned in central defense for the second half of the season and warmly welcome him to Nuremberg.”
Mkrtchyan explained: “I’m looking forward to German football and the challenge in the 2nd Bundesliga. I’m very happy that the move to the club worked out and I can’t wait to get to know everything and play in front of the FCN fans.” The market value of the Armenian national player is 400,000 euros. This season, the defensive man made 19 appearances over 1,289 minutes for Osijek.
