The accident happened around 12:30 p.m., just before the Velsertunnel. Photos show that a truck has crashed into several stationary cars. The cars were standing still because the tunnel had been closed just before due to another truck. This could not continue because the vehicle was too high. The damage is enormous and the road surface is littered with glass and car parts after the collision.
The emergency services responded en masse. Four people, including the truck driver, were taken to hospital by ambulance. It is not known what condition they are in.
Due to the accident, the tunnel is closed to traffic. According to Rijkswaterstaat, this is expected to last until 5:30 p.m. Due to the accident, the A9 is busier than normal: motorists spend about twenty minutes longer on the road.
