According to “Deichstube”

The search for a coach at SV Werder Bremen is apparently coming to an end soon. According to the “Deichstube”, the Dane Bo Svensson has emerged as the favorite. The Green-Whites reportedly want to sign the 46-year-old. And the talks with Svensson, who had already coached 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, are said to have been positive and progressing.

The trainer, who has been without a club for over a year, could easily imagine a commitment to the Weser, but there is no talk of an agreement yet. Among other things, it’s about whether Svensson can bring assistant coaches with him. On Sunday, after ten games without a win, SVW parted ways with Horst Steffen, who only took over from Ole Werner (now RB Leipzig) in the summer. If possible, the new man should be confirmed by the upcoming Bundesliga game at SC Freiburg (Saturday; 3:30 p.m.).

In addition to Svensson, his compatriot Bo Henriksen is also linked to Werder. Both saved their direct rivals Mainz 05 from relegation in a much more difficult situation in recent years.

Coaches and transfers: Werder Bremen’s Fritz looks in both directions

The 50-year-old Henriksen only had to leave Mainz last December after he led the zero-five team to stay in the league in 2024 and into the Conference League in 2025. Svensson worked in Mainz from January 2021 to November 2023 before coaching Union Berlin for six months last season. He had to leave there in December 2024 after a 4-1 defeat in Bremen.

“We are looking in both directions: for the new coach and on the transfer market,” said sports director Clemens Fritz at the weekend. “The goal is clearly an external solution. We know what we need. We know what we are looking for.” Fritz also didn’t want to rule out a firefighter. An old acquaintance on Osterdeich started talking to Felix Magath (72). “There needs to be an experienced man who knows the situation.” He himself “still feels reasonably fit. Not as much as I did 40 years ago, but I still think I’m clear-headed. So I’m not averse to it,” said the veteran on “RTL.”

According to “Bild”, Dieter Hecking (most recently VfL Bochum) also has outside chances as a solution until the end of the season. Daniel Thioune (most recently from Fortuna Düsseldorf) is also part of the extended circle of candidates.
