It is the biggest media riot of the year so far: the dismissal of Jack van Gelder from Hélène Hendriks’ talk show. Why isn’t this talked about in Today Inside?
Hélène Hendriks has expertly decapitated her own talk show with the dismissal of Jack van Gelder. Jack was the hum that her, otherwise very frivolous, program needed. He represents the conservative-populist sound that the supporters of SBS 6 like to hear. And they are now saddled with more airtime for Rutger Castricum.
No time
An incredible mistake: the Johan Derksen role naturally suits Jack much better than Rutger. The PowNed presenter is above all a very safe type who continuously whinnies and laughs along but adds little else. According to Johan Derksen, the last winter series of Hélène’s talk show was unprecedentedly boring due to Jack’s absence.
It is striking that Jack’s dismissal – that’s more or less what it comes down to, despite the fact that he was a freelancer – was not discussed in Today Inside. Host Wilfred Genee noted on Friday evening in the final minute of the program that there was no more time for that.
Wednesday
Wilfred promises that Jackxit will still be discussed in VI. “We didn’t get around to Jack van Gelder, but we’ll have to do that when you’re there next week. Will you be there or not?” he says in the section. In The Walkways.
TV authority Tina Nijkamp then: “Yes, Wednesday.”
Wilfred: “Oh, you were already starting to shine.”
Tina: “About Jack? No.”
Wilfred: “But then we have to do it next week, because Johan probably wants to say something about it too. Then we’ll just keep it warm for a while, right?”
‘I think something about it’
Tina thinks that’s a great proposal. “Yes, that’s good. No, I think so.”
Wilfred: “Oh, you think something about it?”
Tina: “Yes, I think so.”
Wilfred: “Yes?”
Tina: “But I’ll keep it to myself until Wednesday. That’s fine. Let’s agree on that. Yes, that’s fine. I’ll hold back.”
Wilfred concludes: “Okay, I’m starting to get curious now, but no, no, no, we’ll keep that dry.”
