There is ugly laundry in Russia about figure skater Kamila Valieva’s comeback competition.
19-year-old Valieva returned to the bright lights after a four-year doping freeze on Saturday, when she participated in the Russian championships.
The skater, who enjoys the popularity of Vladimir Putin, received a boisterous reception from his fans, which was not to everyone’s liking, however.
The fans threw a huge number of toy turtles onto the ice, when Valieva and Mark Kondratyuk ended their couple program. The act was considered dangerous when the next couple skated onto the ice at the exact same time Anna Frolova–Matvei Vetlugin.
Fortunately, Frolova and Vetlugin did not skate on the toys, but if even small parts of the turtles had come off into the rink, it could have caused dangerous situations for the skaters later.
