After three years in the FC St. Pauli jersey, winger Oladapo Afolayan is moving to the island to join Blackburn Rovers in the second division.
As the English announced on Sunday, the 28-year-old signed a contract until the summer of 2027. Neither club provided any information about the transfer fee.
“I was at my old club for three years and our time there was up, so I was looking for an opportunity to develop further,” said Englishman Afolayan in a statement from the English second division club, who are in a relegation zone in the Championship.
After moving to the Kiezkickern in January 2023, Afolayan was particularly impressive in the 2023/24 promotion season. In 31 games in the second division he had twelve goals. In the current season he only made seven appearances in which he did not contribute to a goal. According to kicker, his demotion to a supplementary player was preceded by disagreements with coach Alexander Blessin.
