The municipality of Tynaarlo has taken the very first step towards a new residential area in Vries. Ultimately, approximately 300 additional homes should be added in the east of the village. In the coming month, residents can think about various things with the municipality.

Plans for a new residential area are not completely new. In 2014, ‘De Bronnen’ in Vries-oost was finally closed due to the poor housing market at the time. Now that we are facing a housing shortage more than ten years later, the plans have been shelved.

Certain matters have already been established or are determined by legislation. It is clear that there will be a residential area and that a large part of the approximately three hundred homes must be ‘affordable’. Tynaarlo asks residents to think about, among other things, how the district connects to Vries, the appearance of the district and sustainability and climate.

The municipality is organizing two drop-in evenings for this purpose. Comments can also be submitted online. The municipality collects all ideas and responses and weighs them in the further development of the plans.

At the moment it is still about global plans and what the process should look like, later matters such as architecture, appearance and requirements will become more and more concrete. According to the municipality, residents will be involved again in the process. Ultimately, the municipal council must also agree to the various steps.

A new residential area is not built just like that. Everything has to be worked out, from practical matters such as sewerage and electricity to investigations and (legal) paperwork. In total, it can take 8 to 10 years before the district is largely built up. Also, not everything is built up at once.
