The 24-year-old man who died in a serious accident in Uden on Saturday evening was driving a loan car from a damage company from Oss. Owner Joop Blok of Blok & Boeije Damage Repair recognized his company name in photos of the accident and was shocked. “We talked to that boy this week. So young, it really touches me.”
The accident happened on Saturday evening around eight o’clock on the N264, at the intersection between the A50 and the center of Uden. Two cars collided hard just after eight o’clock in the evening. Emergency services responded en masse, including four ambulances and an air ambulance.
The driver of the blue car, an elderly man, was miraculously unhurt. The 24-year-old driver of the other car did not survive the impact. To his horror, Joop Blok discovered through photos in the media that the victim was driving a loan car from his company.
“The best boy had his own car with us in Oss,” Joop says excitedly. “His Audi was damaged and that’s why he had a loan car to replace it. Our employees were still talking to him. Maybe he was on his way to friends last night,” Joop thinks out loud. “Or whatever he was going to do, he never came home. Very intense.”
The entrepreneur has been very ill from it all day. “I think this is very bad. A 24-year-old boy who is still full of life and then this happens,” he says. “I have three children of my own, it affects me. That car is just iron, but it concerns a human life. I think it is very sad for the relatives.”
Joop says that he himself was not officially informed about the accident and only heard what happened through media reports. He doesn’t know where it went wrong.
Are the traffic lights incorrectly adjusted?
Meanwhile, social media is pointing to the traffic lights at the intersection where the accident happened. Many people respond on Facebook that the traffic lights are not properly adjusted. According to some, the light turns green too quickly for traffic from other directions.
It is not yet clear whether this played a role in the accident. It is also possible that one of the drivers ran a red light. The police could not say anything about this on Sunday evening.
