Ylen’s Moomin reading marathon captivated viewers over the weekend.

Lasted the whole weekend Moomin reading marathon has ended. In Yle’s live broadcast, public figures read all nine originals by Tove Jansson (1914–2001) The Moomins– books, i.e. eight novels and one collection of short stories.
The works were read by about 130 people, and among them were the President of the Republic Alexander Stubb, his wife Mrs. Suzanne Innes-Stubb as well as the former Prime Minister Sanna Marin.
The reading marathon, which started on Friday evening at 6 pm and lasted more than 30 hours in total, ended on Sunday evening at around 10:30 pm.
It was said in advance that the job would end on Sunday around 9 p.m. However, the time estimates were indicative from the beginning, because the duration of the stories read live and the reading speed of the changing readers cannot be accurately estimated in advance.

On Sunday, Alma Pöysti, Pekka Kuusisto and Emily Matthews. A collection of short stories was read as the last work The Invisible Child and other stories.
When Matthews read a part of the story where Ninni started talking to the Moomin family, Pekka Kuusisto was moved to tears during the live broadcast. Tears streamed down her cheeks as Matthews continued to read.

In Yle’s chat, many people sent hugs to Kuusisto after he became sensitive. Others also had their feelings on the surface.
Alma Pöysti also emotionally shared her feelings in the last meters of the broadcast.
– I am moved, happy and happy. This has been such a great thing to be a part of and also to follow, Pöysti said in the live broadcast.
At the end of the broadcast, Christoffer Strandberg thanked Tove Jansson in Finnish and Swedish.

During the reading marathon, numerous musicians, actors, writers, athletes, presenters, trumpet players, artists and on Sunday, for example, the president Tarja Halonen.
During the work, also many Moominvalley stories or Moomin Valley – voice actors known from the series were able to voice. Among others, Leena Uotila, Olavi Uusivirta, Jarmo KoskiChristoffer Strandberg, Joonas Nordman, Aksa Korttila, Elina Knihtilä, Maria Sid and Teemu Keisteri.

Among them, for example, Olavi Uusivirta’s lecture on Saturday morning especially delighted the viewers. Uusivirta participated in the reading marathon together Aili– with his daughter.
In the middle of reading, Uusivirta started to laugh at Moominamma’s words, and nothing came of the reading. In the end, Uusivirta asked his daughter to read the sentence in question, after which he continued himself.
