During those 55 hours, the men were of course allowed to eat and especially drink. In addition, they were sometimes also allowed to take short breaks to go to the toilet or take a quick shower. What was not allowed was taking a nap. A doctor was present for a check-up. Staying awake for 55 hours was perhaps the hardest part for the bar workers: “This morning at four o’clock we all got a serious hammering from the hammer. But we worked through it and drank coffee.”
Because it is remarkable: although the record took place in a café, the participants did not drink a drop of alcohol.
