DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) – After the happy win against relegation candidate 1. FC Heidenheim, Borussia Dortmund (BVB (Borussia Dortmund)) has opened the hunt for FC Bayern Munich. “It’s six points, we want to attack now. We’re trying to be there. Maybe Bayern will now start to think again,” said national player Nico Schlotterbeck after the 3-2 (1-1) win against the bottom of the table, who were currently leading 2-1.
Crisis striker Serhou Guirassy, of all people, gave Borussia Dortmund new hope in the Bundesliga championship race with a brace. Guirassy, who had been out of form for weeks, turned the game around with a double strike (68th minute/hand penalty, 70th), but also missed another penalty (85th). However, Schlotterbeck had first grabbed the ball for the penalty kick, but then passed the ball on to Guirassy and encouraged the audience to cheer on Guirassy.
“I asked Serhou if he wanted to shoot and he said yes,” the BVB defender explained the scene before the 2-2 equalizer. Just two minutes after the penalty was converted, Guirassy scored the 3-2 winner. Waldemar Anton (44th) had previously shot Dortmund into the lead, but Heidenheim’s Julian Niehues also scored a brace (45th + 5/48th) but left the outsiders dreaming of a big surprise.
No matter how: Dortmund takes advantage of Bayern’s mistakes
In the end, the guests remained winless for two months. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team is now five points behind the relegation spot. “This is a shitty result for us. We didn’t deserve this defeat. That was lucky for Dortmund. BVB came back from nowhere. We dominated for a long time in the second half. A 3-3 would have been a fair result,” said Heidenheim’s Schmidt after the game.
BVB is different, being the Bundesliga team that has been unbeaten for the longest time. With 45 points from 20 games, the Westphalians are doing better than they have in years. Dortmund also took advantage of league leaders Munich’s two mistakes against Augsburg (1:2) and against HSV (2:2) and reduced the deficit from eleven to six points within a week.
Despite Dortmund’s very good position in the table, the game once again left a lot to be desired. In the first round, it was mostly hanging and choking that the 81,365 spectators saw. Dortmund played without any esprit against the bottom of the table. There was hardly any discernible offensive plan. Even the honest guests had the first chance of the game. But Eren Dinkci seemed too surprised when the ball fell at his feet in the penalty area after almost half an hour. The SC Freiburg loanee pushed the ball into the arms of BVB keeper Gregor Kobel.
Weak BVB game for a long time
On the other side, Guirassy had a great opportunity to end his goal drought a good ten minutes later. The Guinean, meanwhile, lobbed the ball onto the crossbar. Despite his ongoing form crisis, Guirassy was once again given the chance from the start and was also involved in the BVB leadership.
The attacker irritated the former Dortmund player Diant Ramaj in the Heidenheim goal after a corner so much that he dropped the ball and Anton just had to push it in. The already somewhat fortunate lead did not last until the break. Heidenheim’s Mathias Honsak drove the ball forward and also benefited from an injury to Filippo Mané, who had to break off the running duel and was substituted during the break. In the penalty area, Niehues used the ball in his second attempt while falling.
When Heidenheim took the lead, the stadium went wild
And after the break it got even worse. Niehues once again put the big outsider in the lead with a powerful long-range shot. The result was an angry concert of whistles, especially from the fans in the south stand. What was particularly noticeable about the hosts was the poor passing game, which Kovac had complained about weeks ago.
Kovac reacted to the setback and substituted Maximilian Beier and Carney Chuwuemeka. However, the attack efforts were far too complicated and sometimes too stubborn. The whistles increased more and more and after 67 minutes it turned into celebrations after referee Jöllenbeck subsequently awarded BVB a hand penalty following the intervention of the video referee. In the absence of captain Emre Can, who was ill, Guirassy stepped up and scored the equalizer.
This seemed to inspire the attacker, who had previously only scored once in the new year. With the next attack, the 29-year-old took the lead to give Dortmund a lucky lead, who only then played more freely. It was Guirassy who missed the chance to decide the game with a penalty in the final phase and chased the ball over the goal./lap/DP/zb
