FC St. Pauli and winger Oladapo Afolayan are going their separate ways. As the neighborhood club announced the day after the 2-1 defeat at FC Augsburg, the 28-year-old is moving to Blackburn Rovers in the English second division with immediate effect. He received a contract with the Championship club until 2027. Both clubs remained silent about the transfer fee.
Afolayan joined St. Pauli from Bolton Wanderers in January 2023. During his time with Hamburg, he played a total of 93 games, scoring 16 goals and preparing seven more goals. In the current season he made seven Bundesliga appearances under coach Alexander Blessin, but failed to score a goal. His market value fell over time from a personal best of 4 million euros to currently 2.5 million euros.
