Nothnagel’s expulsion helps Verl

The teams started the game with a lot of momentum: both teams ran up to the opponent and hoped to win the ball quickly. Florian Hellstern parried a first shot from Alessio Besio (7th) in the Stuttgart goal. After that, the game petered out a bit and there were no big highlights for the time being – until after half an hour a corner from Berkan Taz almost led to the lead: the ball landed just to the right of the goal without being touched by another professional.

The SC now became a little more determined in their attack and made better use of the space behind the high-rushing guests: Besio was denied by Hellstern five minutes before the break. Things got strange in stoppage time: Stuttgart’s Nothnagel, already under a yellow card, stumbled first and then prevented the counterattack by diving into the opponent’s path – the result was a justified yellow-red card.

Twelve outstanding Loser minutes

After the break, Verl had the first big opportunity: Marco Wörner suddenly appeared free in front of Hellstern, but the VfB goalkeeper stood cool and parried. In return, Mansour Ouro.Tagba was blocked at the last second. Six minutes later the SC celebrated: Niko Kijewski brought in a cross from the left and Wörner was in the middle, who took it and sank the ball to the right.

It was Wörner’s last action; Ahrweiler came into the game for him. The striker hadn’t been on the field for two minutes before he was used strongly by Taz and safely scored Verler’s second goal. And it got even more bitter for the guests: Gayret scored from 15 meters for the third goal in just five minutes. Just five minutes later, after a foul by Mirza Catovic, SC was rightly awarded a penalty – Taz was lucky to convert.

Verl is now challenged away from MSV

VfB was now threatened with a complete debacle against playful hosts. However, Verl slowed down a bit and Stuttgart stabilized. Of course, that didn’t change anything about the victory.

On the next match day, SC Verl has to travel to Duisburg. The NRW duel at MSV kicks off on Sunday (February 8th, 2026) at 7:30 p.m.
