In Hulst, in front of his audience, the Dutchman dominates as expected: Eric De Vlaeminck is 7 behind. Fontana does well, fifth
Nobody like him. Mathieu Van der Poel made history today in Hulst, in front of his audience in Holland (over 20,000 spectators), where the Cyclocross World Championships ended. And the 31-year-old Dutchman from Alpecin, who has already become the record holder of successes in the World Cup (51), dominated as expected, taking the eighth world title in the specialty after those of 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025: definitively ahead of the Belgian Eric De Vlaeminck, Roger’s brother, who won 7 over the years 60 and 70.

Nothing to be done for his rivals: Van der Poel – 37 successes in the last 38 crosses contested, he hasn’t lost one since 21 January 2024, 13 out of 13 in the season – took off already on the first day (he was only in the lead after 3 minutes and 40′ of racing) and there was no story as it gradually began to rain on the course. Also on the podium were the Dutch Tibor Del Grosso and the Belgian Thibau Nys, with our Filippo Fontana author of an excellent performance: he finished in fifth place.
