There was no winner in the basement duel in the 2nd Bundesliga between Dynamo Dresden and Arminia Bielefeld. As a result, both teams missed a break in the relegation battle.
In the 1-1 draw in front of 30,840 fans in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, Christoph Daferner (43rd minute) gave Dynamo the lead, and Tim Handwerker (67th, penalty kick) equalized.
In the table, the Saxons have now climbed into the relegation place with 20 points. Coach Thomas Stamm’s team has been unbeaten for three games, but missed its third win in a row against a direct competitor. Bielefeld, coach Mitch Kniat’s team, slipped to 14th place with 21 points. The Arminen are now eight games without a win and remain deep in the relegation battle.
Bielefeld’s knee and Dresden’s tribe are dissatisfied
“We pushed hard at the back and were on the accelerator. If a team was going to win from behind, it was more likely to be us. Now we’ve taken a point, we have to be happy with that.”said Bielefeld coach Kniat on the ARD microphone: “I’m generally happy with the game, but the result isn’t optimal.”
His Dresden colleague Thomas Stamm explained: “It was a lot at stake for both of them, so you just expect more. I have the feeling there was more to it.”

The game started quite lively. The visitors had the first good chance, but Semir Telalovic put the ball past the far post with his shot from the right side from a slightly tight angle.
Then Dresden also registered at the front. Jonas Sterner hit a corner into the backcourt to Jason Ceka, who immediately took the shot. Arminia goalkeeper Jonas Kersken reacted splendidly. Tim Schreiber had to do that a little later on the other side. But he was also on the post after a corner that was cleared too short after a powerful shot from Arne Sicker.
The visitors almost took the lead in the 23rd minute, but Telalovic was just offside when Maximilian Bauer’s cross came through.
Dynamos Daferner scores just before half-time
In the first half it was a competitive game on equal terms, both teams invested a lot, but also largely neutralized each other.
The next chance only came shortly before the break. Then Jakob Lemmer dived to the left of the penalty area and pulled the ball hard towards the goal, Kersken directed the ball over the crossbar. And at the subsequent corner it happened. It sailed precisely into the five-yard box, where Daferner rose highest and headed it in to make it 1-0.
Arminia’s craftsman hits from the point
At the beginning of the second round, Arminia took command. However, there was a lack of risk, the crosses found no takers, and there was a lack of penetration. Dynamo also had the first good chance, but Lemmer put a shot from the corner of the penalty area past the far post.
But then it fell, the Bielefeld equalizer – and with the kind help of the Dresden team. Alexander Rossipal put Monju Momuluh in the penalty area rather clumsily, and Handwerker converted the penalty. Arminia stayed on the trigger, and a little later goalkeeper Schreiber had to defuse a powerful shot from Marius Wörl.
Dresden’s Wagner has to leave the field with yellow-red
In the hectic final phase, both teams shied away from taking the final risk. Even when Dresden’s Robert Wagner had to leave the field with a yellow-red card at the beginning of stoppage time, Bielefeld didn’t have any more chances.
Dresden against Schalke, Bielefeld against Braunschweig
Dresden will be visiting FC Schalke 04 next matchday on Saturday lunchtime (1:00 p.m.). Bielefeld welcomes Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday afternoon (1:30 p.m.).
