“He’s still sick”

So far he has been able to impress with one quality in particular during the tournament. But now Tom Kiesler is threatened with missing out on the final against Denmark – it wouldn’t be his first at the European Championships.
The German handball players may also have to do without Tom Kiesler in the European Championship final against Denmark (from 6 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). A decision will probably only be made at short notice.
National coach Alfred Gíslason said at a media event in Herning on Saturday: “He is still sick. He signaled yesterday that he would play if I wanted him to, but I refused.” The VfL Gummersbach player is doing better, but: “We have to decide tomorrow whether it’s good enough.”
Kiesler had already missed two games recently. The 24-year-old was unavailable in both the last main round game against France (38:34) and in the semi-final against Croatia (31:28) due to a gastrointestinal infection. Gíslason described his player’s condition clearly: Kiesler “just lay in bed” for two days and was “completely weak.” “From my point of view, there would have been a huge risk of injury if I had let him play. Now we hope that he is feeling better,” said the national coach.
Kiesler played his last European Championship game to date last Monday in the main round defeat against Denmark (26:31). There and before, the tournament debutant was particularly impressive in defense. Gíslason described him as the “best defender of the tournament” during the European Championships. The defensive all-rounder is also nominated for the All-Star team.
