Bird flu has been diagnosed at a laying hen farm in Dalen. To prevent further spread, approximately 15,000 chickens have been culled on site by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
There is another poultry farm within a radius of three kilometers, but this one is empty. Bird flu was diagnosed here on December 4 last year, after which all 23,000 chickens were culled.
A transport ban applies to poultry farms within ten kilometers of the affected company in Dalen. That is a total of eight companies and these are not allowed to transport birds, hatching eggs or eggs for consumption. Bird manure may also temporarily not be used as bedding. This should prevent spread to other areas.
Since October 16, 2025, there has been a national cage obligation in the Netherlands, which applies to all commercially kept birds. The NVWA investigates what has recently been transported to and from the company to identify ‘risky contacts’.
