The game has to be interrupted in Leipzig. A player appears to have suffered a serious injury.
The Bundesliga game between RB Leipzig and FSV Mainz 05 was overshadowed by a frightening scene. In the spotlight: Mainz’s top performer Benedict Hollerbach.
The 11th minute in the Red Bull Arena: Hollerbach wants to accept a ball, but is obviously representing himself. He immediately falls to the ground, his face contorted in pain, and grabs his right calf. Paramedics immediately rush onto the pitch and treat the midfielder. Apparently he can’t leave the place without help.
Hollerbach is placed on a stretcher and carried off the field. He holds his hands in front of his face and is obviously inconsolable. Silas comes into the game for him.
It is still unclear how seriously Hollerbach was injured; the club has not yet commented on his player’s condition.
