Rúben Dias is currently missing Manchester City due to injury. Now the Portuguese has to take another setback.
Difficult times for Rúben Dias: The currently injured defender from Premier League club Manchester City was robbed last Wednesday, as British media report. Accordingly, thieves broke into the footballer’s four million pound (around 4.6 million euros) villa in Cheshire and stole jewels, electronic devices and clothing.
The 28-year-old Portuguese is said to have not been in the house at the time of the robbery and was at his team’s game against Galatasaray Istanbul (2-0). His partner was also not in the villa. TV presenter Maya Jama was reportedly in South Africa where she was filming the TV show “Love Island”.
British tabloid The Sun quotes an anonymous source as saying Dias and Jama are “devastated” by the break-in. They are very upset that their privacy has been invaded.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said the report of the burglary was received at 11.10pm on Wednesday. “Officers arrived to find that someone had entered the property and a number of items had been stolen. The investigation is currently ongoing.”
City assistant coach Pep Ljinders said on Friday he had not spoken to Dias personally about the incident. “What I can say is that he will return to team training on Monday,” said the Dutchman. “These are things you don’t want to happen. We’ll support him and then see what happens next.”
Dias and Jama moved into the villa at the end of last year. They had previously lived in different cities – Dias in Manchester, Jama in London.
Football players in the area are often robbed while they are not at home. Before Dias, his former City team-mates Jack Grealish (currently on loan at Everton) as well as Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez were already caught.
