1. FC Köln is preparing to put aside worries in the fight to stay in the league with new home strength. This is coming at the best possible time.
The greenkeepers at the RheinEnergieStadion have a lot to do these days. The 1. FC Cologne will play eight home games until mid-March, seven of them for the professionals and one for the U19s in the Youth League. It’s a busy time in Müngersdorf, and the FC fans want to see as many victories as possible in the Cologne living room.
It’s a good thing that FC started the second half of the season with two home wins in a row. First the 2-1 against Mainz 05, now the 1-0 against VfL Wolfsburg. Six points that are worth much more, after all FC was able to score them against two direct competitors in the fight to stay in the league.
After a two-month winless streak, the Billy Goats managed to turn things around with the power of the home crowd. Anyone who gets six points in two such important games usually lays the foundation for an at least somewhat worry-free rest of the season. With 23 points from 20 games, FC is now very solidly in tenth place in the Bundesliga.
The next home games will be much more difficult on paper – Leipzig, Hoffenheim and Dortmund are coming to Müngersdorf. But under Lukas Kwasniok, Cologne scores an average of 1.4 points per game at home. A quota that nourishes the hope that FC will no longer have anything to do with the relegation battle this season. And a strength thanks to which FC doesn’t have to be afraid of the bigger names.
Home game weeks at 1. FC Cologne should actually always be festival weeks. This was too rarely the case in the past. The start of 2026 and the second half of the season now gives hope.
With the energy of the fans, we can continue to score points in the next few weeks and get closer to our season goal early on. So that staying in the league is within reach after the carnival session.
