Willem Holleeder may be allowed to leave the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught quickly, and then the big question is: can his sister Astrid Holleeder still go to RTL Tonight safely? “Big risk.”
The police and the Public Prosecution Service believe so The Telegraph seriously take into account that Willem Holleeder may leave the EBI because ‘increasingly higher demands are being placed on the conditions to keep him there even longer’. “The Public Prosecution Service therefore had to provide new information about the threat before February of this year.”
Astrid in danger?
The threat that would still emanate from Holleeder. “According to insiders, the Public Prosecution Service has not or hardly succeeded in this. According to the judiciary, Holleeder still poses a great danger to society and, in the eyes of the Public Prosecution Service, there are also possible attacks on his sisters Astrid and Sonja.”
And that while Astrid Holleeder just started a career in television last year. Although she has not succeeded – we never see her anymore on RTL Tonight – but the more freely Willem can move, the riskier it becomes for Astrid to go to a television studio at all.
Feelings of revenge
Willem’s feelings of revenge are infamous, crime journalist John van den Heuvel explains at the desk of RTL Boulevard. “I heard some time ago that things were not going in the right direction with the extension of the ECI measure. This has to do with the fact that the extension must be applied for again every year.”
That extension is in serious jeopardy. “It is now very interesting what will happen, especially for those who have to do with this man, for example the Holleeder sisters, but also others with whom he may have a bone to pick. They are now left with their buttocks clenched.”
EBI light
What will happen to Willem then? “If he leaves the EBI, he will go to the Intensive Supervision Department. This means that everything is still monitored, but it is the EBI-light, a slightly milder regime. He will soon request to leave there too, because the same applies to that.”
And then he eventually ends up in a regular prison. “He has many more freedoms among the normal prison population. This man – so says the Public Prosecution Service, but also his sisters – has only one goal in his life and that is revenge. The element of revenge appears in all the crimes he has committed.”
In the stomach
How is Astrid doing? “This is of course very upsetting to her and I understand that. She is now under strict security measures, but it is not a pleasant idea.”
“He himself said that when he was free, he was walking through the Scheldestraat in Amsterdam, and all kinds of street urchins came up to him and said: ‘Hey Willem, do you have a job for me? Can I earn some money from you?’ Things will not be any different in prison in the future. He then continues to pose a risk to society.”
Astrid sick
Astrid didn’t show up last night either RTL Tonight. “Unfortunately, she is ill and could not come to the studio,” said presenter Leonie ter Braak.
She said in writing: “This is incomprehensible to me. His history with murdering the people who talked about him is established on the basis of the court verdict, the decision of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. His feelings of revenge are not time-bound, he has also proven that.”
“I grant every detainee as much freedom as possible, but for an outside category like WH you have to make an exception.”
