Rob Kemps, the face of party act Snollebollekes, received his first diamond record on Friday for his single ‘Links, Rechts’. The prestigious award is presented to songs that have more than fifty million streams. “It started as a joke, but it is now my retirement,” laughs Kemps.
“Thanks for all the chopping, pounding and jumping,” writes the party singer from Best on his Instagram. He was surprised in Edwin Evers’ radio studio on Friday afternoon. “I am very pleased with this. It started as a joke on YouTube and it is now my retirement,” he said on the broadcast.
Left, Right not only causes a rushing crowd during carnival. The song has now become a classic during sports competitions. For example, Snollebollekes even crossed borders when ‘Von Links Nach Recht’ became a hit during the European Championships in Germany.
Diamond status
It is Kemps’ first diamond plate, but he is not the only Brabander who received one. Singer Flemming from Den Bosch was the first Dutch artist to receive a diamond record for his debut album in early 2024.
Diamond status has only been awarded since January 1, 2024 to singles with 50 million streams and albums with 200 million streams. The gold and platinum records have been around much longer and go to singles with 10 million and 20 million streams and albums with 40 million and 80 million streams, respectively.
