Copenhagen/Kiel (dpa) – The two-time world handball player Niklas Landin returns to his Danish homeland in the summer of 2023 after eight years in the goal of the German record champions THW Kiel.
The 33-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the ambitious club Aalborg Handbold, as the Danish club and Kiel announced. The THW contract of the 2.01 meter goalkeeper, who has won the World Cup twice and the European Championship once in his career as well as being Olympic and Champions League winner, was originally supposed to run until the summer of 2025.
Landin makes “use of a clause in his contract that allows him to move home for family reasons,” says the THW statement. The exit clause includes a fixed transfer fee, the amount of which has not been disclosed.
Aalborg Handbold is currently in the process of recruiting some of the greatest Danish handball players of recent years into its team. Superstar Mikkel Hansen will join the club from North Jutland this summer. The current squad includes Henrik Möllgaard and other Danish internationals.
Landin has been playing for THW since 2015. So far he has played 343 competitive games and scored 21 goals. Twice he won the German championship and the DHB cup with the THW, once the EHF cup and the Champions League.
