It happened yesterday at the Hortusplantsoen in Amsterdam, where work is being done on the power cables, and bones can still be seen today. Achmed was unsuspectingly digging when he came across the mountain of skulls. “We tried to clean it up a bit, but it was too much,” he says. “It was just scary. A colleague couldn’t sleep.”
Local residents also look at the bones with amazement. “It looks a bit like wood, it’s very surreal,” he says. “It’s a bit gruesome. You also saw a pile of bones. It’s very strange to see like that,” says a student.
Forensic experts examined the remains and concluded that they are indeed ancient skulls. Employees of the municipality’s urban archeology department collected the remains.
