We are at nine different coaches in 5 years for the British tennis player. But the results, in recent times, have struggled to arrive
With an Instagram story Emma Raducanu greeted yet another coach: “Francis, thank you for the time spent together. You were more than just a coach”. Recipient: Francisco Roig. Duration of collaboration: six months. Intense, according to what the British tennis player declared, but also difficult to improve, because “we came to the conclusion that together we would no longer make progress. I will cherish all the good moments spent together, on and off the court. Grateful for everything you taught me and the time spent with you”. Yet another professional separation, for Emma Raducanu. Roig was his ninth coach in less than five years.
2026 FREEDIVING
—
The 2021 US Open champion called it quits after six months. Roig, former coach of Rafa Nadal and Matteo Berrettini among others, had been collaborating with Raducanu since August 5th, from the Cincinnati tournament. But the results were not up to par, as confirmed by this start of the season: the British player returned to hitting the ball in the United Cup after a two-month stop (since the Ningbo tournament in October), immediately losing to Sakkari. The preparation for the Australian Open therefore began immediately at a handicap, continuing with the exit from the scene in the quarter-finals in Hobart. Then the Slam started, and Raducanu checked out in the second round against Anastasia Potapova.
HOW MANY COACH CHANGES
—
Raducanu today stands at 29th place in the rankings, yet he has experienced few highs in recent times: just a semi-final in Washington last summer, which ended with a bitter defeat against Kalinskaya. The times of the triumph at Flushing Meadows, achieved as an eighteen-year-old under the guidance of Andrew Richardson, seem very distant. Also because from 2021 onwards the tennis player has continuously changed coaches: she has had brief collaborations with Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Vladimir Platenik and Mark Petchey, in addition to relationships with Nick Cavaday (mentor since childhood, who returned for a short period between 2024 and 2025), Nigel Sears and indeed Francisco Roig, the last to sit in the British player’s corner. Now Raducanu is looking for his tenth coach, and he may be in a certain hurry: he will be back on the field in the next few days, at the 250 indoor in Cluj Napoca.
