Houston Dynamo have signed Mateusz Bogusz from Cruz Azul. The Polish international is moving to the MLS club for a transfer fee of 5.5 million euros, which can increase by a further 3 million euros through bonuses. Cruz Azul also retains a 30 percent resale clause. The 24-year-old offensive player, who can play all positions from ten to wing to nine, has signed a contract until 2028 with an option until 2030. Even without the bonuses, Bogusz is already the second most expensive signing in Houston history.

“Mateusz is a versatile attacker who is just entering the prime of his career and will immediately improve our attack this season,” said Dynamo president Pat Onstad. “He fits well into our system because of his ability to finish attacks in a variety of ways and has a selfless work ethic on defense. Mateusz fits in with the players we are bringing to Houston – a good professional who finds ways to win. We warmly welcome Mateusz and his wife Wiktoria to Houston as we prepare to compete for titles in 2026.”

It is Bogusz’s second attempt in the MLS. In 2023 he moved from Leeds United to LAFC, cost: one million euros. In 90 games across all competitions, he contributed 24 goals and 19 assists for the Californians. Bogusz saw his market value increase from 1.2 million to 10 million euros during his time in Los Angeles.

Bogusz is LAFC’s most expensive player sale

Due to his strong performances, Cruz Azul paid a transfer fee of €8.5 million in January 2025. This deal made Bogusz one of the ten most expensive signings in the Mexican first division club’s history and LAFC’s most expensive departure. At the time, the Pole was a rising star in the MLS and also had offers from Europe. With Cruz Azul he won the CONCACAF Champions Cup and scored three goals and seven assists in 39 games. Before him, Houston Dynamo have already brought in Brazilian winger Guilherme and 2024 USL Championship top scorer Nick Markanich on loan from LaLiga2 club Castellón.
