As many as one in ten Nordic athletes abstain from sex for fear of doping.
The matter is clear from the doping survey conducted by the Nordic broadcasting companies NRK, DR, SVT and Yle. Several different media have reported on the matter.
The survey was sent to all athletes of the Winter Olympics, with the exception of the national ice hockey teams of Finland and Sweden. In total, the survey was sent to 413 athletes, of which 45 percent answered the survey.
The survey also asked about sex. of SVT according to 10.4 percent of the respondents said that they avoid all sexual intercourse because of the fear of caries. 14.3 percent said they avoid sex sometimes.
The question is valid, because in recent years there have been cases in the world where an athlete has claimed to have ingested a prohibited substance during sex.
For example, a boxer on the US Olympic team Virginia Fuchs was charged a few years ago for two prohibited substances, but he was not punished because it was found that the substances entered his body during sex.
A more recent example is a triathlete Imogen Simmondswho complained of ligandrol. However, Käry was invalidated last year, because it was considered that she got a substance in her system after having sexual contact with her male friend who secretly used the substance.
Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson took a stand on the matter in an interview with SVT. He considers sex explanations as excuses.
– However, sometimes that explanation goes through, so it can’t be completely out of the blue, he stated.
He himself does not refrain from sex because of the fear of caries.
