Playlist: New Noises in February
Our February playlist is all about blistering, heartfelt Americana. The Wave Pictures and Nils Keppel complement rousing alternative rock and new wave

1. LUCY KITCHEN “THE BOATMAN (RADIO EDIT)”
Judging by her ballads, which gently sway between country and folk, the British singer and songwriter Lucy Kitchen was born in the wrong place. Their musical home is on the other side of the Atlantic.
2. JAY BUCHANAN “TRUE BLACK”
The singer of the Californian band Rival Sons also approaches things in a very American, but much more traditional way. Solo, Buchanan unleashes a mix of blues, rock, gospel and honkytonk.
3. LUCINDA WILLIAMS “HOW MUCH DID YOU GET FOR YOUR SOUL”
A simple rhythm and blues riff is enough for the Americana master in this piece from her new album “World’s Gone Wrong” to turn a warning against greed into a major diagnosis of the present.
4. COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS “KEEPER”
One of the most beautiful love songs from the US songwriter’s new album – and a wonderful ballad about the nature of guardians.
5. THE WAVE PICTURES “ALICE”
Fortunately, four years after their last album, the English trio sounds as always – like a mixture of Bob Dylan, Rory Gallagher and an obscure Sixties beat.
6. THE SHEEPDOGS “NOBODY BUT YOU”
The band from Saskatoon, Canada, will make classic rock fans watery-eyed. In this track, The Sheepdogs add a healthy dose of big star harmonies to their Southern Rock recipe.
7. NILS KEPPEL “Stranger Dream”
A track fueled by new wave and post-punk by the singer from the southern Palatinate, who already leaves no doubt in the title of his debut album who his role models are: “Super Sonic Youth”
