Because he had to vomit several times, Tom Kiesler missed the main round game against France. Now the DHB gave an update on his health.

Germany’s handball players may also have to do without their defensive edge Tom Kiesler in the European Championship semi-final against runner-up Croatia. “He feels better,” said national team manager Benjamin Chatton on Thursday at the German team headquarters in Silkeborg. “Unfortunately, we cannot yet estimate whether we will be operational tomorrow,” Chatton continued. The gastrointestinal infection took Kiesler “very seriously. So the next 24 hours will just have to wait and see in this context.”
Kiesler missed the decisive main round game against defending champions France (38:34) and stayed in the hotel. “When we left the hotel, he was puking every quarter of an hour,” national coach Alfred Gíslason reported after the game. “Of course I hope that we can manage that he can play.”
Defense specialist Kiesler is one of the important pillars of German defense. After reaching the medal games, Gíslason even described the 24-year-old from VfL Gummersbach as the “best defender of the tournament”.
Even if Kiesler were to be unavailable again, the DHB probably doesn’t have to worry about further illnesses. “The other good news is that no one else has been dragged into this dilemma as of now,” Chatton said. He said it was not known whether Kiesler actually had an infection that was contagious.
