After Oftedal Dahmke’s career ended, the couple first got married and in the summer of 2025 the birth of their daughter Amelie. The family currently lives together in Kiel, where Dahmke is active for THW in the handball Bundesliga. Living together since Oftedal Dahmke’s retirement has been a new experience for the couple, as before they often traveled the world separately.

Dahmke is now all the happier to be able to spend more time with his wife: “For me it’s great. We had this long-distance relationship for over seven years and now we’ve finally had a year and a half where we spent almost every day together,” he said. Since the birth of Amelie, his life has been “a dream.”

Communication at Oftedal-Dahmke is very international. According to him, Dahmke and his wife always speak English to each other. “Now we speak Norwegian with the little one, and when my family comes, German,” he revealed. Dahmke jokes that his “baby Norwegian” isn’t much better than Amelie’s.

“I’m excited to see what comes out of it. Whether the little one can manage it or whether it will be complete chaos,” he said about the many different languages his daughter gets to hear. However, it is important to the couple that Norwegian is not left behind. “We know, because we now live in Kiel and actually have the plan to stay there, that German won’t be a problem anyway,” said Dahmke.

Incidentally, Stine Oftedal Dahmke cannot completely give up handball even after her career ends. Since then she has been working as an expert for Norwegian television. Something that Rune Dahmke is also very happy about: “I think it’s great,” he says. “It’s very nice for them to stay in handball for a while, to have these conversations and stay in touch with the players,” said Dahmke. “It’s also a good opportunity for her to have some kind of normal life. After she became a mother, it was very dependent on the little one.”
