In order to cast the statue in bronze, Historical Klazienaveen must first choose a sculptor and design. The battle is between Lisa Krol, who made several images for the KNVB, and Hans Jouta – known for the Johan Cruyff statue outside the ArenA in Amsterdam. “We still have to make that choice and we are working on it.”
Before one of these artists can start working with his chisel, a total of 70,000 euros must be raised. The municipality of Emmen has already made an initial financial contribution, and Jagt is also busy with a number of major sponsors. “That’s a very good start, but we’re still a long way from that,” he says.
That is why initiators have started a collection campaign. “We thought: it is an image for Klazienaveen, but also of Klazienaveen. It would be nice if Klazienaveners themselves also wanted to contribute to the image.”
The statue should be placed in Klazienaveen next year, says Jagt. “We started a year ago and assume that we will continue for a while. We are aiming for early 2027.”
