Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen secured their place in the final round of the Champions League on the last matchday of the league phase and know after the final whistle which opponents are waiting for them. Since the premier class reform for the 2024/25 season, the path through the further rounds has been marked by the placements in the league phase.
As table 16th. Leverkusen has to play against the 17th or 18th place in the playoffs. There is a threat of an early Bundesliga duel with BVB. The other lot is Olympiacos Piraeus. If this is drawn, Dortmund would have to play against Atalanta Bergamo (15th). Unlike BVB, the Werkself have home advantage in the second leg. The duels will be drawn next Friday. The playoff games will take place on the 17th/18th. and 24/25. Held in February.
Meanwhile, FC Bayern will jump straight into the round of 16 as runners-up and can also look forward to playing the second leg of the remaining knockout rounds at home in front of their own fans. For Munich, the four possible opponents in the round of 16 have already been determined – and another German duel is looming. It will be one of the winners of the meetings between Dortmund, Leverkusen, Atalanta and Olympiakos.
Unlike Munich, both BVB and Bayer 04 would have to play away in the second leg of the round of 16. The round of 16 will take place on 10/11 and 17/18. March, the draw will take place on February 27th.
