WILHELMSHAVEN (dpa-AFX) – Two perpetrators used violence and tools to break into lockers in a bank branch in Wilhelmshaven. A police spokesman said it was a number in the low double-digit range, i.e. under 50. It was initially unclear whether and to what extent anything was stolen. There may also have been empty, unrented lockers in the specially secured room. The bank will call all affected customers and clarify what was in the compartments and whether anything was stolen, said the spokesman.
It was initially unclear how the still unknown perpetrators got into the room. Customers with lockers can enter with a special card and code, the police spokesman explained. According to initial police investigations, the perpetrators only had a few minutes to break open the compartments. Accordingly, there was an internal alarm and after a short time the perpetrators fled on foot.
Are there three perpetrators?
There may be a third party involved. Police have released descriptions of three suspicious men and are asking witnesses to come forward.
Customers who would like to know whether their lockers in the PreuĂźenstrasse branch are affected should contact the bank directly. The police, who received numerous inquiries shortly after the crime became known, cannot provide any information about who was affected and to what extent./hho/DP/he
