From “Satellite” to “Golden”: Our ranking presents the 10 most convincing Harry Styles songs of his solo career since One Direction.
Harry Styles’ new album KISS ALL THE TIME. DISCO, OCCASIONALLY is in the starting blocks. The first single, the techno-inspired track “Aputure,” gives a taste of his upcoming disco era. After a four-year break, the new record will be released on March 6, 2026. The tour will take place in the form of residencies from May to December 2026 and will take him to Europe, South and North America and, last but not least, Australia. Reason enough to take a look at Styles’ oeuvre.
Since his time in the boy band One Direction, the Brit has released three solo albums, all of which have received critical acclaim and showcase his versatile musical ability. His catalog currently includes 36 released songs, including the new single. In this ranking we present our top 10 of the 31-year-old – to date.
10. “Cinema” (HARRY’S HOUSE, 2022)
The eighth track of HARRY’S HOUSE is an explicit love letter in musical form – in which he also exposes himself emotionally. Lines in the track’s chorus like “Do you think I’m cool, too? / Or am I too into you?” make it clear: Even a pop star has insecurities – such as the fear of not seeming cool enough.
The song has little to do with cinema in the classic sense. Styles reinterprets the term: For him, “cinema” stands for the appearance of his love interest, which visibly fascinates him. Funky elements give the pop song a timeless, casual vibe that is supported by graphic descriptions and thoughtful questions.
9. “Late Night Talking” (HARRY’S HOUSE, 2022)
“Late Night Talking” is a promise to a loved one to be there for each other even in a difficult phase – even across physical distance. Night-long conversations until dawn are a given. With the line “I just want to make you happier, baby,” the singer shows that he is willing to do anything to see the other person happy again.
The song could just as easily have come from an eighties R&B record. The motif of profound lines with a danceable beat runs through the artist’s musical output. The combination of a danceable beat and emotional content is typical of Styles and gives a heavy topic a pleasant lightness.
8. “Woman” (HARRY STYLES, 2017)
Even the spoken introduction: “Should we just search romantic comedies on Netflix and then see what we find?” is iconic and perfectly captures the zeitgeist of 2017. In “Woman,” Styles addresses the fast-paced and non-committal nature of modern relationships – a circumstance that obviously concerns him.
The woman sung about doesn’t seem to be completely emotionally available. The slow jam makes you think. His frustration is particularly noticeable in the live version, while the acoustic guitar adds depth.
7. “Two Ghosts” (HARRY STYLES, 2017)
The soft rock ballad “Two Ghosts” highlights a failed relationship and shows a new, thoughtful side of the artist. Country notes in the guitars give the song additional heaviness. Styles finds a powerful metaphor for what remains at the end of a relationship: two people who only exist as memories – like ghosts. The transience of this state is underlined by the line “Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat”.
In 2019, Styles revealed that the song was originally intended for One Direction’s latest album MADE IN THE AM, but ultimately felt too personal for him – something that die-hard fans should hear.
6. “Sweet Creature” (HARRY STYLES, 2017)
“Sweet Creature” from his first record HARRY STYLES is musically minimalist and uses guitar almost exclusively. The song is about two people who want to find each other despite difficulties. The songwriter philosophizes about the feeling of home he finds in another person, for example in the line “Wherever I go, you bring me home.”
The ballad shows him particularly vulnerable. His voice seems like it could break at any moment. A song that makes you feel melancholic and gives you access to your own emotions.
5. “Adore You” (FINE LINE, 2019)
In the song, the artist longs for adoration – not his own, but that of another person. The line “I’d walk through fire for you / Just let me adore you” makes this abundantly clear. The track feels like a carefree summer day where you just let go and enjoy the moment.
Fun Fact: According to Styles, “Adore You,” “Lights Up,” and “Treat People With Kindness” — all seminal to his career — were written in the final week before the album was completed.
4. “Fine Line” (FINE LINE, 2019)
The epic finale of his second album FINE LINE lasts an impressive 6:17 minutes – a rarity in pop. Musically, the track has everything: folky guitars, brass and strings. In terms of content, Harry Styles devotes himself to thoughts of a past love.
With “We’ll get the drinks in / So I’ll get to thinking of her” he suggests using alcohol to consciously put oneself into a state in which memory and the present blur. The recurring line “We’ll be a fine line” is emblematic of this fine line – a motif that runs through the entire album and gives it its title.
3. “Golden” (FINE LINE, 2019)
“Golden” puts you in a good mood in the first few seconds. Guitars and drums sound like summer and freedom. But the text tells a different story: It’s about the fear of losing a newly started relationship. Lines like “I don’t want to be alone when it ends” make this insecurity clear. The cheerful sound once again conceals a serious topic – a stylistic device that the artist masters masterfully.
Show-off knowledge: “Golden” was the first song written for FINE LINE.
2. “Falling” (FINE LINE, 2019)
“Falling” is probably the saddest piano ballad of his career to date. Styles describes the feeling of losing your footing after the end of a relationship. The central question is: Who am I without this other person?
To find an answer, he visits places that once meant togetherness – a painful mistake because they bring back memories that only make him fall deeper. An intense song about heartache that lets the listener empathize immediately.
1. “Satellite” (HARRY’S HOUSE, 2022)
The title “Satellite” fits perfectly with the spacey sound of the track, which is characterized by driving keyboards, guitars and synthesizers. In the chorus, the Brit begs a past love to pull him back into her orbit.
With each repetition of this request of the line “Spinning out / Waiting for ya / To pull me in” the intensity increases until the song culminates in an explosive bridge. This energetic, feel-good song definitely deserves the top spot in our ranking.
