Travis Scott describes the destruction of Troy in the trailer for Christopher Nolan’s new epic “The Odyssey.” The film opens in theaters on July 17 and features a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

Surprising appearance in the NFL trailer

The star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey continues to grow. A new trailer for the film, which hits theaters July 17, reveals an unexpected new cast member: the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling artist Rapper Travis Scott.

The preview premiered Sunday night on Fox during the NFL-AFC Championship game, when the game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos was briefly interrupted. About 20 seconds into the one-minute trailer, Scott can be seen speaking to a room full of soldiers – about a war, a man and a ruse to overcome the walls of Troy. “Burning,” he says. “Screaming to the ground.”

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. It is Christopher Nolan’s first film since 2023’s “Oppenheimer.” The adaptation of Homer’s Greek epic was shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

Acting, music and creative curiosity

Scott, who previously had acting roles in the 2023 experimental action film Aggro Dr1ft and had a voice role in Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, may not have as extensive an acting resume as the rest of The Odyssey cast. However, that didn’t stop him from getting involved in the project.

“These are just different aspects that I was interested in and wanted to delve into, honestly,” Scott said of his varied creative interests in his recent ROLLING STONE cover story. “I’m just interested in anything creative. I may not be the best at everything. That’s exactly why I can respect collaboration with other people in certain areas that I’m not so good at.”

Previous collaboration with Christopher Nolan

Scott previously worked musically with Nolan on “Tenet,” which was released in 2020. The rapper wrote the song “The Plan” and performed it himself. The track can be heard in the end credits of the film. This year, the director told GQ magazine: “His voice became the final piece of a year-long puzzle. His insights into the musical and narrative mechanisms that composer Ludwig Göransson and I were building were immediate, clever and profound.”

Universal Pictures has not officially released the latest trailer for “The Odyssey” yet. Most versions uploaded to social media have already been removed due to copyright infringement.
