WASHINGTON/MINNEAPOLIS (dpa-AFX) – After the fatal shooting of a nurse by US immigration authorities ICE officers, President Donald Trump is sending the former acting agency head Tom Homan to the US state of Minnesota. He should arrive on Monday evening and then report directly to Trump, the president announced on his mouthpiece Truth Social. Government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt added that Homan should monitor the operations on site.
Homan is the man who is supposed to enforce Trump’s deportation policy. He is considered a hardliner and called for consistent action by ICE even after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renée Good by a federal officer at the beginning of January – also in Minneapolis. These should continue “without apology.”
Trump announced a little later that the Democratic governor of the state of Minnesota, Tim Walz, had allegedly asked him to cooperate. “It was a very good conversation and we actually seemed to be on the same wavelength,” Trump claimed. He instructed Homan to speak to Walz on the phone and announced another conversation with the governor as soon as possible. According to the president, he is said to be “happy” that Homan is being sent to his state.
On Saturday morning, 37-year-old US citizen Alex Pretti was killed by shots fired by federal officers in Minneapolis. The US government portrays the fatal shots as self-defense./ngu/DP/stk
