STRASBOURG (dpa-AFX) – The European Commission around Ursula von der Leyen will have to face a vote of no confidence in the European Parliament on Thursday (from 12 p.m.). It was introduced by EU MPs from the right-wing far-right alliance PfE, the right-wing conservative EKR group and the ESN group. The necessary two-thirds majority for the initiative is considered very unlikely.

The applicants criticize the Commission for its approach to the free trade agreement with the four Mercosur states Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. It was signed on Saturday. The accusation is, among other things, that the resistance of national parliaments, the European Parliament and European farmers was ignored.

This is the fourth attempt from the EU Parliament within around six months to remove the Commission. She survived no-confidence votes in July and October. At the debate in the EU Parliament on Monday, the speakers from the center and left-wing factions – the Christian Democratic EPP, the Social Democrats, Liberals, Greens and Left – signaled that they wanted to reject the motion of censure./vni/DP/mis
