The French car manufacturer Renault is starting to produce military drones.
The French Ministry of Defense has asked the Renault Group to use its expertise to develop a French drone industry, a company spokesman said. For the project, Renault will work under the auspices of the General Directorate of Armaments with the French company Turgis Gaillard, which has already designed a drone for the military.
Renault did not provide further details about drone production. However, the company has sought-after know-how in the conception, industrialization and series production of high-tech objects while adhering to quality, cost and deadline specifications.
As the newspaper “Les Échos” reported, the concrete aim for both partners is to develop a “remotely controlled long-range ammunition” that can also be used for observation and reconnaissance missions. The goal is to produce around 600 copies per month. The deal, with an initial volume of €35 million, could bring Renault €1 billion over 10 years.
At EURONEXT Paris, Renault shares temporarily gained 1.76 percent to 32.41 euros.
