European Bobsleigh Champion Adam Ammour celebrated his next coup at the Olympic dress rehearsal in Altenberg and underlined his gold ambitions for the season highlight in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The 24-year-old won the World Cup final in the Erzgebirge in the foursome just ahead of the overall World Cup winner Johannes Lochner and Francesco Friedrich and raced to his second victory in a row in the large sled.
“It’s great to be able to win again before the Olympics. It was such a close race,” said Ammour, who, with his pushers Issam Ammour, Joshua Bag and Alexander Schaller, had moved from third place to the front after the first run. Lochner made a mistake in the second round just before the finish and had to settle for second place in the last World Cup race of his career. “I’m just happy, it’s been a great journey so far,” said Lochner at the ZDF microphone. In the end, Ammour was 0.02 seconds ahead of Lochner and 0.15 seconds ahead of Friedrich.
After an outstanding season and a total of nine victories in 14 races, the Bavarian Lochner wants to achieve his first Olympic triumph at the Winter Games in Northern Italy (February 6th to 22nd). Then he ends his career. The Bavarian also secured the overall World Cup in two-man on Saturday.
Friedrich, on the other hand, missed a mood booster on his home track and came away completely empty-handed in the overall World Cup for the first time in eight years. The four-time Olympic champion from Pirna had already announced on Saturday that he wanted to “hit back” at the Olympic Games.
