France’s handball players are making history at the European Championships in Oslo. In their resounding victory over Ukraine, the defending champions surpassed one record – and set another at the same time.
The four-time European champion France set two historic marks at the European Handball Championship with a 46:26 (24:12) against Ukraine. The reigning title holders not only scored the most goals in a European Championship game in Oslo, but also set the record for the highest win at a European Championship with a 20-goal lead.
So far, Norway (42:31 against Poland/2022), Sweden (42:26 against Georgia/2024) and France had shared the goal record even after the 42:28 opening win on Thursday against the Czech Republic. Only the Czech Republic had previously achieved a victory difference of 20 goals with a 38:18 win against North Macedonia in 1998.
The European Championships in Denmark, Norway and Sweden are currently delivering records almost every day. On Friday, Slovenia and North Macedonia played the highest-scoring game in European Championship history with a score of 41:40.
