Johannes Lochner won the overall World Cup in the two-man bobsleigh for the third time in his career – and impressively underlined his status as favorite for the season highlight at the Olympic dress rehearsal.

The 35-year-old, with pusher Georg Fleischhauer, won the World Cup final in Altenberg well ahead of Adam Ammour (+0.45 seconds) and his long-term rival Francesco Friedrich (+0.51) and celebrated his sixth success in the seventh race of the season.

However, doubts are growing with the former dominator Friedrich: The two-time double Olympic champion from Pirna ended the World Cup season with just one victory in the small sled and also ended up behind Ammour for the second time in the last three races.

“It’s super cool. There’s nothing better to end your career in the two-man bobsleigh World Cup like this,” said Lochner on the ZDF microphone. The Bavarian will call it quits after the Olympic Games in February.

In Cortina d’Ampezzo, Lochner wants to fulfill his dream of his first Olympic victory. Friedrich, on the other hand, is aiming for his fifth and sixth Olympic gold medals in Italy.
