A solution appears to have been found for Marc-André ter Stegen to get the match practice required for the World Cup. As “Ràdio Girona – SER Catalunya” and Fabrizio Romano report, FC Girona and FC Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement on a loan for the German national goalkeeper until the end of the season. The negotiations are therefore well advanced.

The transfer is in its final stages and should take place next week. Only a few details remain to be clarified before the deal is finalized. Ter Stegen forgoes the move to the Spanish table 13th. on a large part of his salary – Girona takes over the remaining share.
Most recently, DFB sports director Rudi Völler made it clear again that ter Stegen, who was retired in Barcelona, must be able to take part in the World Cup with the club. “He has to play. Especially after his injury, also the legend of his injuries, that he also needs the match practice to get back into it – despite all the quality,” said Völler on Sunday in the “Sport1” program “Doppelpass”.
Ter Stegen recently recovered from back surgery and made his comeback in the cup at the end of last year. Nevertheless, he usually doesn’t go beyond the reserve role at Barcelona. For coach Hansi Flick, Joan García (24) is the clear number one. Without a transfer in the winter, Ter Stegen’s participation in the World Cup would be in acute danger.
