January 16, 2026 – 5:05 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

There are six games scheduled for the second day of the 2026 European Handball Championship. Particularly in focus: the Danish national team. The tournament favorite is playing here.
The top favorite of the tournament is playing its first game: On Friday evening, Denmark will face North Macedonia in Group B of the European Handball Championship at 8:30 p.m. Also there: two-time world handball player Mathias Gidsel from Füchse Berlin. The 26-year-old was top scorer at the 2024 European Championships – just like he was at the last two World Cups.

In Group D, Slovenia and Montenegro open the matchday at 6 p.m. Switzerland then meets the Faroe Islands (8.30 p.m.).
In Group F, Italy will face Iceland at 6 p.m. For the Italians, it is the first European Championship game in 28 years – and the first major tournament under German coach Bob Hanning. The Icelanders, with Magdeburg stars Gisli Kristjansson (26) and Omar Ingi Magnusson (28), go into the game as favorites. Hungary and Poland will also meet in Group F at 8:30 p.m.
