For Telstar, it is the first time in 24 years that the Velsen residents are still present at this stage of the national cup tournament. The White Lions dealt with first divisionist Almere City FC quite easily on Wednesday (3-1).
Penalties
Go Ahead Eagles defeated AZ in the cup final last season. That only happened after extra time and penalties. The Deventers also worked overtime last Wednesday. To qualify for the quarter-finals it again came down to penalties. Heracles Almelo then left disappointed.
There was also a home match for AZ. With FC Twente, the Alkmaarders will meet former AZ coach John van den Brom, who twice reached the cup final with AZ. In 2017, AZ lost 2-0 to Vitesse, a year later Feyenoord (3-0) was clearly too strong.
