Aleksi Valavuori did not digest the results of this year’s Sports Gala.
Media personality Aleksi Valavuorella’s Athlete of the Year voting result was emotional.
Golfer Sami Välimäki finished fourth in the Athlete of the Year voting. Harri Heliövaara, one of the world’s best doubles players in tennis, and a basketball star Lauri Markkanen and a hockey player Alexander Barkov.
Valavuori, profiled as a basketball player, had chosen Välimäki as his favorite this year. When the favorite did not win, Valavuori made his own decision.

The awarding of the athlete of the year concluded the official part of the gala anyway, so Valavuuori’s march out was not of great importance in itself. The event continued with an informal part, the main purpose of which is mainly to network and meet old acquaintances. The majority of guests skip this part.

Millions of debts
Valavuori arrived at this year’s Sports Gala together with the other members of his podcast. In an interview with Iltalehti, Valavuori threatened to confiscate the winning trophy and hand it over to Välimäki himself if someone other than a golfer gets the award.
In the interview, Valavuori did not brag about his own financial situation, although according to him, the program is producing well.
In 2024, Valavuori was sentenced for two gross tax frauds and a gross accounting crime.
– I’m still a little over a mile [miljoona] in the freezing cold, but now there is light at the end of the tunnel that we can get through that too. If this continues, it is possible that I will even be able to pay for my plane ticket myself, Valavuori told Iltalehte at the Sports Gala.
