British pop singer-songwriter Charli xcx is continuing her creative expansion and taking the next step beyond pop music with a cinema project. “The Moment,” a mockumentary that is heavily inspired by her own biography, will be released in February 2026 and will be released in cinemas internationally. The dates for the cinema release have now been set.

The German release is scheduled for February 19th, the release in Great Britain and Ireland will follow one day later, Australia will follow suit on March 5th. The independent studio A24 is responsible for worldwide distribution of “The Moment”.

Between breakthrough and self-doubt: What “The Moment” is about

At the center of the film is a fictionalized version of Charli xcx, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, who is on the verge of breaking through to the arena level. Between public expectations, self-doubt and the mechanisms of the music industry, “The Moment” accompanies its protagonist through a phase in which success is as overwhelming as it is seductive.

The production consciously moves between reality and fiction and uses documentary stylistic devices to create closeness – without losing sight of irony. The film was directed by Aidan Zamiri, who co-produced the music video for the remix song “Guess featuring Billie Eilish”. Zamiri was also involved in the script together with the writer and journalist Bertie Brandes.

Premiere with a star cast

The film will premiere at the end of January 2026 at the Sundance Film Festival. “The Moment” caused great interest there: all six screenings were already sold out in advance. The cast also contributes to the international buzz. In addition to Charli xcx herself, Kylie Jenner, Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Isaac Powell and Shygirl are part of the ensemble.

The BRAT interpreter will also present her new film at the Berlinale, as she announced on Instagram:

Charlie xcx on the road to success

The Brit is currently at a peak in her creative output: with the album BRAT, she not only dominated the charts in 2024, but also set aesthetic standards in pop and club culture. The work received two awards at the 2025 Grammy Awards, and the track “Von dutch” also received a Grammy in the Best Dance Pop Recording category. An extensive, sold-out tour in support of the album followed.

In addition to her new film, the 33-year-old musician has another highlight coming up in February: her new album WUTHERING HEIGHTS will be released on February 13th, as the soundtrack to the film drama of the same name by Emerald Fennell. Two tracks from it, “House feat. John Cale” and “Chains of Love” have already been released.
