The Verona coach: “After the lead we gave up a bit and paid dearly for it”
Paolo Zanetti comments to Dazn on Verona’s defeat against Bologna 3-2 at the Bentegodi.
“There were two games in one – explains the Gialloblù coach – it’s a shame because clearly we started well, we took the lead, then we definitely dropped something. We conceded two goals at the top corner, the quality of Bologna’s individuals is unquestionable. But we then became lighter especially in the defensive phase and we paid dearly for this. Afterwards we had a good second where we also had a clear opportunity to equalise. For the umpteenth time we didn’t do it and therefore the regret of having lost this match also due to our own demerit clearly remains.
Tactical changes? You can play with one less midfielder, one more striker. The important thing is that everyone runs, that everyone works together. Ironically, the second half, despite having an extra striker, behind us we were much more precise, much nastier, we were man for man with a different attitude. Instead, those twenty-five minutes in which we were ahead we were all lined up, we conceded three goals because we were light. So the difference is always made by the attitude beyond the characteristics on the pitch.
We definitely had gods today very important players out and absolutely everything about this game cannot be thrown away. There are many positive things. What shouldn’t be done is making mistakes at certain moments of the match. Whoever is behind, whoever is at the bottom, cannot afford this. Then the matches must be played, they are the result of episodes, of the quality of the opponent.
What should never happen are the mental blackoutsespecially experienced footballers. Now we have matches that are closer to our level and we have to get to one hundred percent.”
