At the World Cup he made headlines: Dom Taylor’s doping test in London came back positive. Now the punishment is certain.

English darts professional Dom Taylor has been banned for six months after a positive doping test. This was announced by the umbrella organization of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) after the end of the hearing of the case.

The positive test has further consequences: Taylor also lost the prize money he had earned of 25,000 pounds (around 28,800 euros) and his tour card. He is slipping in the world rankings. He also has to bear the costs of the procedure.

Taylor started the tournament on his debut at the World Cup in London on December 14th with a 3-0 win against Oskar Lukasiak from Sweden. Due to the positive test result following this duel, he was no longer allowed to take part.

The DRA said in a statement: “Taking into account all available evidence, the committee was satisfied that Mr Taylor’s use of cocaine and cannabis occurred outside of competition and not after the start of the World Championships.”

A year earlier, 27-year-old Taylor had to postpone his premiere at Alexandra Palace after he gave a positive doping test in autumn 2024. At that time he was able to prove that he had not taken any medication during a competition. Therefore he was only suspended for a month.

However, because he has now violated the anti-doping rules for the second time, he has been banned for six months in accordance with Article 10.9 of the UKAD Anti-Doping Rules.
